Villa Fontaine Premier – Tokyo Haneda Airport Hotel
After a long flight, the first thing I needed was a shower and some rest. I had anticipated this, and booked ahead a room at the Villa Fontaine Premier hotel at Tokyo Haneda Airport. The room was immaculate and the hospitality was incredible. Everything was provided, including everything needed to wash, pyjamas and even a fully stocked fridge with soft drinks and alcoholic beverages. I usually avoid the “minibar” in hotels as they typically mean over inflated additional charges. However, this was all complimentary, included in the price of the room!

After a short nap and a much needed fruit juice, I headed down to the shops and restaurants below.
Tokyo Haneda Airport Garden
Tokyo Haneda Airport Garden is like a magical wonderland. The most wonderful sights and smells can be experienced as one walks through a town centre-like complex of high end artisanal retail and cuisines. Deciding where to eat was almost like option paralysis..
Award Winning Udon
After perusing around the food area, we finally decided on Udon. This was not your typical udon however.. Hanayama Udon Haneda serves award winning, large flat noodles. Served hot or cold with a variety of toppings and sides. The quintessential “noodle slurp” was quite a challenge with such a flat noodle, but of course I couldn’t resist attempting this uneasy task, and I admit only semi-success!
The flavours were incredible, and the staff very kindly advised on how much of each condiment I should add to my udon. The ingredients were astonishingly fresh and so well prepared with tender loving care! I had my first taste of black soy bean tea, which I instantly fell in love with. The tempura side dish was equally delicious!
This place has won awards for the quality of their food, and I can see precisely why! My first meal in Japan was absolutely delicious! Washed down with both tea and a cold glass of Sapporo, I couldn’t have asked for anything more.
