Shakujii Koen

Tranquility and nature are not typically synonymous with the Tokyo Metropolitan area, often described as a concrete jungle.. However, this is not entirely the case. Nestled within the sea of hustle and bustle, buildings and neon lights are various spots of natural beauty and almost mountain-like retreats.

Shakujii Koen is one such place, and what a place it is!

I recently purchased a second-hand Nikon DSLR camera, so of course I was eager to capitalise on the next available clear and sunny day, to take it out for some test shots.

Walking around Shakujii Koen, it is almost impossible to believe that such a place is IN Tokyo! A large lake-like pond, foot bridges, many species of birds, HUGE fish, various tall trees, a handful of shrines and even a Japanese rat-snake (あうだいしょ – audaisho in Japanese).

If or when you ever visit Tokyo, be sure to take a moment to experience some of nature spots.

You may find more photos from Shakujii Koen and other places, on my photography page. Thank you!
