Tokyo Night & Light – Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building Projection Mapping
Tokyo Night & Light is a Guinness World Record breaking projection mapping installation.
The largest permanent architectural projection-mapped display in the world covers an area of 13,904.956㎡ on the facade of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Tokyo’s Shinjuku ward.
After the sun goes down, the building lights up with beautiful light projections, with additional scheduled performances starting each night at around 6:30pm.
The scheduled performances include sound and music, and can be enjoyed for free anywhere where the building is visible.
Tokyo Night & Light – Sunday, March 9th 2025
I was in Shinjuku last night (2025/03/09) and decided to head on over to the Night & Light attraction.
There was quite a few people there, securing a bench was a challenge, but I wouldn’t call it busy. Considering how busy the other side of Shinjuku gets during both the day and night, I was pleasantly surprised to find how peaceful the government district of Shinjuku is.
For the first performance we sat/laid down on the artificial grass, then moving to a bench for the second performance.
We enjoyed GODZILLA, PACMAN, Yoasobi – アイドル and some Japanese themed productions.
Fortunately, I had my 4K camera with me and managed to capture the performances.
I have uploaded the segments to my YouTube channel and will embed them bellow.

GODZILLA: Attack On Tokyo
Godzilla suddenly attacks the First Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. The human race is determined to intercept Godzilla with a new super-weapon, the “Super X2 Kai”, but…
Tokyo GODZILLAs
Godzilla, King of the Monsters: 70 Years of Evolution.
From “Godzilla” to “Godzilla-1.0”, successive Godzillas attack the city of Tokyo! The appearance of Godzilla at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building is projected on a huge screen, and its timeless power attracts viewers. Don’t miss the overwhelming finale in which all the previous Godzillas come together at the end!
PACMAN eats Tokyo
The game board appears in the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, and PAC-MAN, moving in all directions, dynamically eats up everything in sight.
Trackmaker Sasuke Haraguchi, who has a strong affinity with the futuristic PAC-MAN game music, has created the music.
Yoasobi – アイドル
YOASOBI’s song “Idol,” which became a hot topic as the theme song for the anime, is a famous song that is rhythmical and gorgeous, but also contains hesitations and conflicts. Enjoy the projection mapping that expresses the emotional movement of this song.
TYO337
The Japanese rhythm of 337 beats is added to the music, a fusion of traditional Japanese instruments and innovative club music, making the audience want to start dancing.
Together with visual expressions inspired by kabuki and other traditional Japanese performing arts, it will bring a sense of togetherness like a theater to the audience.
Ukiyo
Developed in the Edo period, this work is a cross between “Ukiyo” painting, which is a work of art that depicts the diverse daily life of the time with vivid colors and delicate colors, and “Ukiyo” as a world that is constantly changing.
From the Edo period to the present day, it expresses the various cultures and lifestyles of Japan that change with the times.
The context in which the world of Ukiyo-e paintings is connected to contemporary pop culture is expressed through a combination of visuals generated by AI learning and CG by the creators.
